Prompt Two: The Whole Problem
Dear [Whoever], I’m stuck. What I really want to say about this whole problem is . . .
Our second prompt has been donated by Will Eaves. Will Eaves is the author of five novels and two books of poetry, most recently 2019 Murmur, recipient of numerous awards. Inspired by the life of Alan Turing and the brutal treatment he received after his arrest for being gay, it’s an extraordinary book, quite unlike anything else I’ve read. Although it’s fiction it has so much to teach the nonfiction writer about working with true stories and real lives as literary material (and reading it you may wonder how useful the boundaries between fiction and nonfiction are at all).
He’s also a brilliant essayist. Beginnings will change your attitude to car boot sales forever.
Thanks Will!
If you’d like to share what you write in response to Will’s prompt, you can do that in our Google folder by next Friday (3rd April) here. And remember if you’d like to join a cluster with other writers, to share more detailed feedback on your work, you can email me and I’ll put you in touch - ambermblomfield@gmail.com.
So many of you wrote wonderful pieces in response to last week’s prompt from Robert Macfarlane. Thank you for sharing them. Do have a read. I’ve found them very healing this week.
Stay safe, and well.
