Prompt Three: Another Thing Entirely
You're looking for something - something needed in that moment that is otherwise dull and uninteresting, a charger cable, perhaps - in a drawer or cupboard that is long overdue a tidy, when you encounter another thing entirely.
It has been a while, you forgot it existed, and yet here you are, holding it, being transported somewhere you haven't been in a while. What is it, how does it make you feel, and what do you do with it after?
Today’s prompt comes from Alice Vincent, author of beautiful memoir Rootbound: Rewilding A Life. Mingling autobiography, nature writing and botanical history, the book follows a year in Alice’s life after a serious break-up, and how, as the seasons pass, she turns to gardening to help her heal. I can’t think of a better book to read right now. Her writing is so restorative and hopeful, and will have you filling every window sill, balcony and empty jam jar with plants and flowers. Her newsletter is gorge too: I drop everything when they arrive in my inbox, and relish a little moment of calm in the middle of the day. Thanks Alice!
Responses can be uploaded here by next Friday. I know a couple of people have had issues doing this - you need a google account to add a document, but feel free to email me at ambermblomfield@gmail.com with your piece as an attachment if you want me to upload it for you.
And remember total beginners will find some suggestions on how to get writing here.
Have fun.
