Prompt One: An Anchor
Write about an 'anchor-point' of some kind at this tempestuous, chaotic time. A memory, a photo, a moment of natural beauty/encounter?
A rock to cling to.
Today’s prompt has been donated by Robert Macfarlane. Robert is a nonfiction writer known for his fascinating, lyrical books about landscape, nature, words and people. 2019’s best-selling Underland is about underground places - sea caves, burial chambers, hidden tunnels. My favourite is 2015’s Landmarks, which explores how language helps us to see the natural world more clearly: how words make meaning of the places we inhabit. It reminds me that, in troubled times, writers are more important than ever.
Thanks Robert!
If you’re just getting started with creative nonfiction writing, I have a few tips here. If you’d like to share what you create in response to Robert’s prompt, you can upload it to our Google folder by next Friday (27th March) here. And you can remind yourself how Homework works here.
